Manalapan Man Charged with Aggravated Assault on Police Officer

Jeffrey Silverman was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

An intoxicated Manalapan man was arrested after he struck a township police officer, according to the Manalapan Township Police Department. 

Ptl. Eric Voorand and Ptl. Jeff Emslie responded to a home on Pinecluster Circle at 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 23 for a report of an intoxicated man who took the victim’s car without permission, police said. Police said that Jeffrey Silverman, 50, was extremely intoxicated and infuriated. Silverman struck Ptl. Voorand’s hand with a closed fist, according to police. 

Police handcuffed and arrested Silverman and charged him with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. Silverman was transported to CentraState Medical Center for treatment of a prior injury that was bothering him. He was released on his own recognizance at the hospital.
