Manalapan Police Need Help Finding Jewelry Thief

A man was seen stealing jewelry from a Manalapan home and eluded the homeowner.

Manalapan police are on the look out for a man who burglarized a Shawnee Court home on Jan. 10.

The homeowner told police that he saw a white, or possibly Hispanic, man coming down the stairs at around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 10. The intruder was holding the homeowner's jewelry box under his arm, according to police.

The homeowner confronted the intruder and tried to detain him, but the suspect eluded the resident. The man reportedly fled the area on foot towards Iroquios Drive. During the investigation, police discovered that the suspect may have entered a white car, possibly a sedan, that hastily left towards Union Hill Road.

The suspect was described as about 5'9" and thinly built; he was wearing a black wool hat and hooded, sweatshirt jacket. A composite drawing of the suspect was created through details provided by the victim.

Anyone with any information about  the identity of this suspect is asked to please contact Detective Kevin Schmidt or Detective Leonard Maltese of the Manalapan Township Police Department at 732-446-8387 or 732-446-8388.

Wondering...how did this suspect gain access to the house? There is very little info. Was this the same person who was ringing neighboring bells asking about snow shoveling contracts?

Does anyone know how much higher the crime is now over the last year. I feel like I see reports of break ins multiple times a week. I dont think this was the case a year or so ago.
