Manalapan Resident Ejected from Car; Driver Charged with DWI

Several people sent for medical treatment after accident in Howell early Saturday morning.

Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday morning a 17-year-old Jackson resident reportedly ran a stop sign on Havens Bridge Road causing a crash that sent three people to the hospital with a variety of injuries.

According to Sergeant Joseph Markulic of the Howell Police Department, the juvenile was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus when he collided with a 1998 Volvo driven by Michael Courtney of Farmingdale heading west on Casino Drive. Courtney's car overturned and his front seat passenger, Beth DeGruccio of Manalapan was ejected. 

Markulic said DeGruccio suffered facial injuries and a fractured femur and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Farmingdale Howell EMS. The 17-year-old was taken to nearby CentraState Medical Center for minor injuries, while his passenger Jeffrey Wilder of Freehold declined medical attention.

As a result of the crash the juvenile was issued several summonses including driving while intoxicated. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Sgt. Markulic at 732-938-4111.
