Monroe Man Indicted on Lewdness, Child Endangerment in Manalapan

The man allegedly exposed in genitals in front of an 8-year-old girl.

Monroe Township resident Carl Davis, 67, was indicted by the Monmouth County Grand Jury for lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child in Manalapan Township.

According to the indictment issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Davis exposed his genitals on Sept. 10 in the presence of an 8-year-old girl while walking around the parking lot of Target, located within the Epicentre Shopping Center on Route 9 in Manalapan.

Onlookers called the police and Ptl. Eric Voorland responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Voorand’s investigation revealed that a female victim and her young daughter witnessed Davis exposing himself and then leaving the area.

Detective Kevin Schmidt and Detective Leonard Maltese of the Manalapan Police Department took on the investigation and were able to identify Davis through the store’s video surveillance footage.

Police arrested and charged Davis on Sept. 13. He was initially remanded in Monmouth County Correctional Institute in default of $22,500, but eventually bail was posted.

Davis was indicted on one count of lewdness, a fourth degree crime, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a third degree crime.
