Police Arrest 2 Local Men Allegedly Making Heroin Deal

An Englishtown man and a Manalapan man were both arrested on May 5 by Englishtown police for allegedly making a hand to hand heroin deal, among other drug related charges.

John Modica, 23, of Vale Valley Dr. in Manalapan, was charged with possession of 10 wax folds of heroin, possession of Xanax, possession of Suboxone, resisting arrest, and littering. Nicholas Scarano, 29, of Pine St. in Englishtown, was charged with possession and distribution of heroin, and distributing heroin in a school zone.

Ptl. Philip Accatatta witnessed a hand to hand drug transaction occur on Tennent Ave. in Englishtown and informed Corporal Michael MacInnes of the incident, according to a release issued by the .

MacInnes tried to stop Modica, who was traveling by foot on Main St. Once stopped, Modica refused to comply with MacInnes' commands and a small struggle transpired which caused the bags of heroin to fall out of Modica's hands.

The bags of heroin were recovered at the scene and Modica was transported to police headquarters where he was charged and released on a summons, police said.

Scarano was later found inside of a business on Tennent Ave. and arrested by Accatatta and MacInnes with assistance from Officer Scott Zapora and Officer Scott Christofides. Scarano was also transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on $10,000 bail, which was set by Judge James Newman.
