Police: Freehold Township Residents Report Black Bear Sighting

A bear was seen near the Freehold-Manalapan border on Thursday night, according to police.

Freehold Township Police responded to the area of Battleview Orchards on Wemrock Road Thursday night, after neighbors reported a black bear sighting. 

Freehold Township Police Detective Sgt. Jerry Kiwit said that the call about the bear sighting came into the department around 6:40 p.m. Patrols responded to the area, but the bear was not located.

The Jersey Shore Hurricane News Facebook page posted about the bear sighting stating that the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife was notified.

Residents are asked to call their local police department if a bear is sighted. If you see the bear within Manalapan Township please call the Manalapan Police Department at 732-446-4300.
