Two-Car Crash on Smithburg Rd. Kills Freehold Woman

Police said the woman lost control of her vehicle and swerved into the other lane.

A two-car collision on Smithburg Road in Manalapan Township, near the Millstone Township border, resulted in fatal injuries for Freehold resident Lauren Loggie on Wednesday afternoon.

New Jersey State Police (NJSP) responded to the scene of the accident at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to find Loggie entrapped in her vehicle which had hit a utility pole.

According to Sgt. Gregory Williams of the NJSP, Loggie, 32, was travelling northbound on Route 527 when she failed to negotiate a curve at around mile marker 23.3.

Loggie, driving a gold 2002 Ford Taurus, lost control of the vehicle and veered into the southbound lane where she collided with a red 2002 Nissan Quest. After colliding with the van Loggie's vehicle crashed into a utility pole where she became entrapped.

Millstone Fire Department and aided in extricating Loggie from the wreckage and she was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Police reported that a medevac was requested to the scene, but later cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Loggie sustained internal injuries and later succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. Dr. Rohani pronounced Loggie's death and her next of kin was notified, Williams said.

The Nissan Quest was driven by a man who suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and sent home, according to Williams.

Police reported that Loggie possibly failed to navigate the curve due to increased speeds and wet roads; however, the accident is still under investigation.
