Twp. Committee Honors Braves' Record-Breaking Football Season

The Manalapan Township Committee recognized the hard work and dedication of the athletes and coaches of the high school football team this year.

Manalapan Mayor Andrew Lucas presented the Boys Varsity Football team with an official proclamation at the Township Committee meeting at on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Both athletes and coaches were awarded the proclamation for their stellar 2011 season which garnered a record breaking 10-2 ratio of wins to losses.

The season, and the team's ten game winning streak, ended last week when the Braves lost the NJSIAA Central Group IV Football State Championship to Sayreville War Memorial High School. The game was held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at High Point Solutions Stadium at Rutgers University. The final score was 23-11.

Lucas called up all members of the team, Head Coach Ed Guerri and the assistant coaches to read an official proclamation from the Township to the team. They all received a copy of the proclamation which recognized the team and the coaches for their tremendous achievement.

Guerri thanked the public for their support and coming out to cheer on the Braves at the championship game. He also thanked the administration for their continued encouragement of the team.

"We will back next year," Guerri said. "Next year we're going to win."
