Manalapan Township Committee: No Car Dealerships on Route 33

Committeeman Andrew Lucas announced that the Township Committee will not be introducing an ordinance to zone car dealerships on Route 33

The Manalapan Township Committee is saying no to car dealerships. Despite the fact that the Planning Board approved an amendment to the Master Plan which recommends motor vehicle sales agencies as a conditional use on Route 33 west of Woodward Road, the Township Committee is adamant that car dealerships will not be constructed on the highway.

At last week’s Township Committee meeting, Committeeman Andrew Lucas  explained that in order for a car dealership to be zoned into existence, the Township Committee would have to introduce an ordinance, hold a noticed public hearing, and then adopt the ordinance, if they so desired.

Lucas said that no current member of the Township Committee thinks that having a car dealership at any point of Route 33 makes sense for Manalapan.

“As long as these five members of this Township Committee are here, you can be rest assured that there will be no introduction or adoption of any type of car dealership on Route 33,” Lucas said.
