Mantle and Herring Sworn in As Police Sergeants [VIDEO]

The two new Special II officers and a new patrolman also took their oaths of office.

Thomas Mantle and Robert Herring took their oaths of office as Sergeants of the Manalapan Police Department at the Township Committee public meeting at Town Hall last night.

The Township Committee passed a resolution in September appointing Mantle and Herring as Sergeants effective Jan. 14 and on Wednesday, Jan. 23 they laid their hand on the Bible and were officially sworn into the position by Mayor Susan Cohen.

Kyle Earley was also sworn in as a Manalapan Patrolman last night and the two new Special II Officers, Christopher Oleksy and Christopher Makwinski, also took their oaths of office. Oleksy and Makwinski were hired after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting to help aid the police department in patrolling Manalapan-Englishtown schools.

Police Chief Christopher Marsala thanked the Township Committee for the replacement positions and the new officers, although he said that the department does need a few more officers. Nevertheless, he said that the department is moving in the right direction.
