Public Comment Portion of Committee Meetings Reformatted

After public comment closes, the Assistant Administrator will read the name of the resident and their question back to the Township Committee for an answer.

As newly appointed mayor of , Susan Cohen went straight to work. Cohen announced at the Township Committee Reorganization Meeting on Monday, Jan. 2 that the structure of the public comment portion at Township Committee meetings would be reformatted.

A topic of contention for a long time, Cohen recognized that several residents wanted the public comment portion changed, while many others recommended the status quo. Cohen announced a reformatting that she deemed "a compromise".

From now own during public comment, Assistant Administrator Renee Garrigana will write down the names of those speaking and their questions. When public comment finishes, Garrigana will read back the name of the resident and their question to the Township Committee for answers.

"We will do our best to answer the questions," Cohen said. "However, if we are unable to, or they require more research, at the next Township meeting we will open public session with the unanswered questions before taking any new ones."
