Want a New Garbage Man?

The contract with Waste Management in Manalapan ends on Dec. 31, bids for garbage contracts go out on Sept. 9, hear and comment on bid options at meeting on Sept. 21.

Manalapan Township’s garbage contract with Waste Management ends on Dec. 31 of this year and the township is required to put out another bid.

“So, there is a potential that we will have a different garbage company come January, it may be the same, it all depends on how the bidding process goes,” Deputy Mayor Ryan Green said at the Township Committee meeting on Aug. 10.

The bids will open on Sept. 9, according to Green. On this day, the township will see what options it has and how much they will cost.

“Public input and public participation in the selection of a new garbage contract is very important to the Township Committee,” Green said. “We definitely want to hear input from residents prior to awarding the contract. In other words, if you call us on Jan. 2 and don’t like something about the garbage collection there is not much we can do at that point, but if you come talk to us in September there may be something we can do.”

A town-hall style Township Committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21. The committee will present the bid options from the garbage companies on that evening and the committee is encouraging residents to come and hear the options, make comments, and ask relevant questions. All bid information, when it becomes available, will also be published on the Manalapan Township Web site.
