Music defines time. Music also defies time. That's why Springsteen's "We Are Alive" is the song that best represents the year that has passed us. It also symbolizes the year ahead for us.
Having listened to the song countless times since it's March release and having seen it performed live a handful (or three) of times, it has served as the piece of music that renewed my soul and sparked my spirit. It was that dose of 'keep on keepin' on' that the doctor ordered.

2012 was the birth of the innocent and the end of the innocence for me.

My legacy was brought into this world near the beginning of the calendar year. I was blessed with life's most precious moment. Heartbeat. Hope. Optimism. Prosperity. The birth of the innocent.
Let your mind rest easy, sleep well my friend,
It’s only our bodies that betray us in the end.
Towards the the end of the year I saw our collective human spirit tested and nicked. The devastation that mother nature delivered in one fell swoop in to our friends and neighbors. Then the inexplicable and irrational hurt and sorrow one human species levied upon children, families and a nation who continue to mourn alongside them. Is there a safer haven than a schoolhouse for a kid? We assumed so and found out the contrary. The end of our innocence.
And though our bodies lie alone here in the dark,
Our spirits rise to carry the fire and light the spark,
To stand shoulder to shoulder and heart to heart.
2013 turns our proverbial life page. It came at the right time. This world can deliver miracles and magic one day. Horror and cruelty the next. It's time to welcome and embrace the day. Shine a light on the moment.
As Springsteen has preached in the past:
" I cannot ... I shall not ... I will not...Promise you life everlasting. But I can promise you...LIFE, RIGHT NOW!"
2013 is here. The new year. It's all in the song.
We Are Alive.
