The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation has awarded the Foundation for Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools a $50,000 Challenge Grant, meaning that every dollar donated to the Foundation for MERS will be matched by the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation up to $50,000.
This idea for the challenge was headed by Barry Tobias, the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer of the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, according to a press release issued by the Foundation for MERS. Tobias worked with the trustees at the Foundation for MERS as well as district administrators to determine what areas of the district need the money.
Four focus areas were determined, which include:
- Digital Conversion Initiative - Bringing 21st century technology to our students
- Music is Instrumental - Ensuring that all students have instruments available for instruction.
- Piano Lab Project – Providing elementary schools with state of the art digital piano labs
- Summer Program – Scholarship program for students to improve math and language arts skills
“This is a special opportunity for our community to join together in supporting the children in our district,” President of the Foundation for MERS Pat Berger said. “Achieving the full matching challenge will result in $100,000 going directly to our schools. We are very thankful to Star and Barry Tobias and The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation for their dedication to our students and for bringing innovative technology, programs, and resources to our schools that would not be available through district funding.”
The Foundation for MERS is a non-profit corporation that was formed in 2009 to works to raise money for the district.
