Committee of the Whole MERS Board Meeting Tonight

Board is recommended to go out to bid for emergency contract to fix middle school roof.

The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education is meeting tonight for a Committee of the Whole and Board action meeting. The meeting, which will take place at the district administration building in Englishtown at 7:30 p.m., includes the approval of the 2013-2014 school year calendar.

Additionally, the Board is recommended to approve a grant of $599 from The Foundation for the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools for a Smart Easel for Reading - Mac Mini.

The Board is also recommended to approve an emergency contract for Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School for Spray Fire Proofing. The emergency contract resolution states that spray fire proofing dislodged from the roof deck and structure during the summer of 2012 and came through the ceilings in a number of areas of the MEMS building.

At the end of September 2012, the spray fire proofing dislodged from the roof deck and structure and came through the ceiling while a class was in session. In October, Vertical V-Northeast, Inc. compiled a Fireproofing Density Report which indicated that there were notable adhesion and cohesion issues throughout the second floor of the original MEMS building, the contract stated.

The Board of Education authorized LAN Associates to implement a prototype repair to address the issues in November and in December it was determined that the prototype repair solution was a success. LAN Associates recommended this solution for all areas of the second floor that have the adhesion and cohesion issues, the contract stipulated.

Therefore, the emergency contract recommends that the Board of Education go out to bid to award a contract for the remediation of the adhesion and cohesion problems.

Tonight’s agenda also includes the recommendation for the Board to approve the Individual Employment Contract for Superintendent John J. Marciante Jr. for the period of July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016.
