After the board members were sworn into their new seats, and closed session was held, the board resumed their normal responsibilities.

A great number of concerned citizens came to the meeting to share their opinion on the list of salaries for personnel for the 2011-2012 school year. The public commented on the inflated increases in salary for the administrative employees.

“The taxpayers supported the budget because we thought it was for the kids” resident Gloria Close said. “If you get more than 2 percent you should consider yourself lucky. 28 percent or $28,000 plus in addition to the salary is unheard of and uncalled for.”

Board attorney Steve Edelstein explained that the board decided not to vote to increase the salaries of the employees that are not members of a collective bargaining unit. These employees include assistant superintendents, certain administrative supervisors, directors, some executive secretaries, ROTC officials, and several other administrative professionals, Edelstein explained.

“With respect to those individuals, [the board] will reappoint these individuals at exactly the same compensation that they are receiving currently,” Edelstein said. “The question of whether these individuals will or will not receive an adjustment to compensation is something which the board will deliberate about in the future, and if there is an adjustment to be made to the compensation of any or all of these individuals that will be an action that will be taken in the future.”

Board Secretary and Assistant Superintendent for Business Administration Sean Boyce identified the non-unit employees as: Sean Boyce, Donna Evangelista, Nicole Hazel, Suzanne Koegler, Jeffrey Moore, Joseph Robinson, Jason Schimpf, Jennifer Sharp, James Byrnes, Donald Markese, Patricia Resnyk, Alexander Ferreira, Patrick Lagravenis, Warren Leidenheimer, Dawn Anderson, Katherine Barkalow, Cynthia Beatty, Chakela Butler, Colleen LaBruno, Patricia Matthews, Amanda Santos, Alexcyz Cruz, Jennifer Pinter, Ann Marie McDonald, Carmalyn Salkowitz, Nancy Slattery, Michael Duncan, David Loring, and Gregory Penczak.

The board approved the appointments and reappointments of the staff personnel and their subsequent salaries.

The next Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. and will be held at the on 11 Pine St. in Englishtown.
