FRHSD Assesses Security Measures In Wake of Newtown Tragedy

In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn. shooting, the Freehold Regional High School District wishes to be proactive in ensuring a safe school environment.

Superintendent Charles Sampson met with the six district high school principals over the weekend to restate the significance of following the school’s security and safety measures.

The principals of each high school reviewed their school’s safeguards and their physical plant needs, according to Sampson. The security of the buildings will frequently be examined, including the exterior doors, windows, exits and all exterior entrances.

The district is currently reassessing the district’s security procedures and will continually to do so annually.

“The safety of our students is top priority for our district, and we take very seriously our responsibility to ensure their safety each and every day,” Sampson said.

The district has also been in contact with local police departments in order to receive guidance from police and emergency experts on how to diminish random acts of violence and create an overall safe setting within the district, the Superintendent said.

Faculty will, also, continue to be diligent in all security drills with the students.
The superintendent said that the schools need to be even more vigilant in reporting unusual activity, closing exterior doors after every entrance, and signing in and out of the school building.

“In many ways, the world before us has changed," Sampson said. "Sadly, we have seen this before. We move forward much more cognizant of the fact that we are the first line of defense to ensuring safe schools.”
