Manalapan-Englishtown and FRHSD Budgets Pass

The 2011 school election results are unofficial, as the mail-in ballots and write-ins still need to be verified and calculated.

The votes are in. Ralph Cafaro, Michele Stipelman and Dotty Porcaro will fill the three open three-year terms on the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Edcuation, and the school budget has passed.

The race for passing the budget was very close, with only a 14.28 percent differentiation. Out of a total of 2,772 votes, 1,584 voted yes to passing the budget (57.14 percent) and 1,188 voted against the budget (42.86 percent).

The race for Board of Education was also extremely close between all candidates.

The results are as follows:

  • Ralph Cafaro received 1,410 votes at 26.86 percent
  • Dotty Porcaro received 1,341 votes at 25.55 percent
  • Michele Stipelman received 1,247 votes at 23.76 percent
  • Martin Spindel received 1,207 votes at 22.99 percent

Therefore, incumbent Stipelman will remain on the board welcoming Dotty Porcaro and Ralph Cafaro. A total of 5,249 votes were cast for the board members, today.

The 2011-2012 school district budget will lead to a 1 cent increase per $100 assessed value for Manalapan Township and a 5.2 cent increase per $100 assessed value for the Borough of Englishtown. To understand why Englishtown carries much of the tax burden, click . 

The Freehold Regional High School District has also passed their budget. The largest high school district in the state brought out 16,955 voters today. The budget was passed with 9,989 votes (58.91 percent) beating out the 6,966 voters who opposed the budget (41.09 percent).

The $177.58 million budget encompasses a $115.6 million tax levy, which is the same as last year. While the tax levy did not alter, the way in which the taxes are allocated did change. Manalapan Township's tax rate is reduced by $1.18 to $42.06 and Englishtown's tax rate is reduced by $1.93 to $30.04. 

Since the FRHSD budget has passed, "pay-to-play" will not be implemented until the 2012-2013 school year
