Manalapan Student Awarded Mary Pat Christie Scholarship

The scholarship awards $5,000 to help support college education.

Manalapan Township resident Jordan Chervin was one of twenty winners of the Mary Pat Christie New Jersey Heroes Spirit of Hero Scholarship. The scholarship awards $5,000 to help support college education. Manalapan Mayor Susan Cohen presented Chervin with a mayoral proclamation for her success at last week’s Township Committee meeting.

The New Jersey Heroes Spirit of Hero Scholarship was established by First Lady of New Jersey Mary Pat Christie this past winter. Christie said that this scholarship is intended to help deserving students follow their dreams and desired career path.

“The scholarship recognizes individuals and organizations for significantly impacting the communities of the state of New Jersey,” Cohen read from the proclamation.

Chervin volunteered over 320 hours at The Manor at CentraState Hospital in Freehold regularly assisting patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. She also was awarded various other scholarships, was a varsity athlete, and ranked fourth in her class, according to Cohen.

The criteria for the scholarship include a dedication to volunteerism, good grades, enrollment in college for the upcoming year, and a letter of recommendation.
