Marlboro High School Cheerleaders Give Back to Sandy Victims
The Marlboro High School Cheerleaders prepared and delivered sandwiches to Belmar residents devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
The cheerleaders of Marlboro High School decided to use their cheerful spirit to brighten up the lives of those negatively affected by Hurricane Sandy, according to a release issued by the Freehold Regional High School District.
The cheerleaders prepared 150 sandwiches from donations for Belmar residents who were displaced from the storm.
"As the students prepared and delivered the sandwiches, I had the opportunity to watch them offer their words of kindness to strangers. I am not only a proud coach, but a lucky one, because not all coaches get to work with such an amazing group of children who would do so much for others," Coach Lauren Segarra said. "This experience is something irreplaceable and more valuable than a classroom could teach."
David Ryden, the Supervisor of Extracurricular Activites, said that the cheerleading team collected money and bought lunchmeat and bread to make the sandwiches.

"They organized the entire event by themselves all the way down to the transportation and collaborating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency," Ryden said. "It is times like these that I am so proud of the selfless giving that the students of Marlboro High School are willing to do for people in need."
The cheerleaders who volunteered were Rachel Portnoy, Carly Goldstein, Madison Samilow, Erica Turtz, and Franchesca Barone shown. Lauren Segarra and Meghan Mathis supervised the teenagers.
