Mayor Awards Proclamation to MHS Winner of Siemens AP Math and Science Award

Ilana Porter has been recognized for winning the Siemens AP Award for Math and Science.

senior Ilana Porter has been honored by Mayor Susan Cohen for winning the NJ state female Siemens Advanced Placement award of 2011, a Siemens Foundation program administered by the College Board.

Porter was recognized for receiving the higest AP exam scores in the state for math and science and was nationally recognized as 1 of 101 students leading the nation in AP performance for math and science courses. She is one of two students in New Jersey to be recognized.

“Ilana Porter is a wonderful young lady who has an amazing personality and an exceptional intellect," Acting Principal of Manalapan High School, Jennifer Sharp, said. "We are proud to add her to the long list of students from our Science and Engineering Learning Center who have won the Siemens Award in past years."

Siemens honors high achieving math and science AP students with college scholarships to inspire academic excellence in math, science and technology and support students who aspire to work in these fields professionally.  

“I sincerely thank the Siemens Foundation, my parents and teachers for all the help and support they’ve provided me over the years,” Porters said when she accepted her $2,000 scholarship and award from Siemens representative, Laura Schneebacher.

Porter's parents, Stephen and Dani, her classmates, Manalapan Mayor Susan Cohen, Superintendent Charles Sampson and Science and Engineering Learning Center Supervisor Denise Scanga were present to support Porter. And Cohen presented Porter with a plaque and issued a proclamation during the ceremony.

Ilana’s crowd of supporters included her parents, Stephen and Dani Porter, classmates, Superintendent Charles Sampson, Mayor Susan Cohen, Science & Engineering Learning Center Supervisor, Denise Scanga and others.  Mayor Cohen also issued a proclamation honoring Ilana during the ceremony.

“We are so incredibly proud of Ilana. The Manalapan Science & Engineering Learning Center has been fantastic for her because the teachers really push and inspire her,” Mrs. Porter said. Porter attends the Science and Engineering Learning Center at Manalapan High School, a four-year program for students interested in math, physical science, and engineering.

Freehold Regional High School District Superintendent Charles Sampson congrautlated Porter saying, “Ilana’s accomplishments are vast. The Siemens recognition serves as a capstone to a remarkable high school career, and I am confident that Ilana will continue to distinguish herself at MIT.”

Porter will be attending MIT in the fall with a $2,000 scholarship awarded to her from the Siemens Foundation.
