Milford Brook School February Highlights

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Story Time with our Teachers
First and second graders were excited to stay after school on Monday, Feb. 6 to share favorite picture books with their teachers. The PTA organized the event to kick off our Winter Book Fair. The students were treated to milk and cookies after story time and then were given a “private, preview sale” at our book fair.

Sweetheart B-I-N-G-O
The PTA sponsored a family BINGO night on Thursday, Feb. 9. The Valentine-themed event was well attended by both Milford Brook families and staff. Much fun was had by all!

Celebrating 100 Days of Learning…
In honor of the 100th Day of school, which fell on Monday, Feb. 13, first grade students participated in several fun and educational activities! Students rotated through several 100th Day centers practicing both math and reading skills. Learners also presented 100th Day projects - a collection of 100 items arranged using their creative imaginations (they came out pretty great!). Classes read 100th Day poems together and wrote their own 100th Day poems at the end of the day. Truman, the Kidsville mascot, also stopped by to be part of our 100th Day celebration!

Keeping our Hearts Healthy
Each class participated in our annual Jump-a-Thon in honor of Healthy Heart Day on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Students learned various jumps, such as the El-Matador, that they incorporated into individual and group routines. Our students have learned the importance of a healthy heart by eating healthy, saying "NO" to harmful substances, and keeping fit by jumping rope.

Peep-Peep…
As part of the study of animal life-cycles our 3rd graders have been caring for chicken eggs that have been housed in incubators placed in their classrooms. The first week students took turns rotating the eggs and monitoring for any signs of hatching. During the second week, the eggs begin to crack and baby chicks enter the world right before the students’ eyes. It’s an exciting time for our students as they care for and study the chicks, documenting various phases of their growth and development. This hands-on science experience is sponsored by our PTA.
