Milford Brook School February Highlights

Check out the school's highlights from February 2013.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

The short month of February seemed to fly by for the staff and students of Milford Brook School. Students worked hard as they went through their second round of Link-it testing. Staff and students are eager to see meaningful data on just how much students have grown between October and February of this year. Physical education teachers, Mrs. Akins and Mrs. Regino, were as busy as ever with their Jump-a-Thon competition. Students had a great time competing in front of the judges with their classmates to see who had the best jump rope routine. Many students could jump rope for three minutes straight!

Mr. Fontana and his class were busy as well, as they organized a “Newcomb” tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society and collect books for schools affected by Super Storm Sandy. They raised over $900.00 and collected over 800 books!

The last week of February brought us Read Across America. The week was filled with themed dress up days that supported an academic exploration of Dr. Seuss and the many lessons in both reading and writing that accompany his work. Finally, first grade students celebrated the 100th day of school with a myriad of Math-based activities to celebrate this milestone.

The PTA was busy as usual! President Potosky and members organized this year’s second book fair where they made over $3,000.00 to support educational initiatives in the building. In addition, the PTA hosted the PTA Valentine’s Day Bingo event. This was a wonderful family event with over 160 participants who enjoyed pizza, smiles, and laughter. It was heartwarming to see the families having fun and also competing! This event also raised money to support teaching and learning.
