Milford Brook School January Highlights

Students learn about the Native Americans, pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., danced at a Snowflake Ball, and were taught by some MEMS students!

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

“Grandfather Turtle” Visits with Students

Third graders were treated to an amazing interactive children’s theatre production entitled, “Grandfather Turtle” on Friday, Jan. 6. The students spent the morning learning about the Native Americans’ respect for and interactions with “Mother Nature” and planet Earth, and then came together to perform in a play, which served as a culminating activity. This activity is part of our students’ on-going study of various Native American tribes and the colonial time period in American History.

Hands Across Milford Brook

On Friday, Jan. 13 students and faculty honored the memory and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a recital of excerpts from the famous "I Have a Dream Speech" and singing of Martin’s Cry. The fourth and fifth grade members of our Student Council did an excellent job leading the whole school in honoring a
legendary American activist, who still inspires many young adults today.

Snowflake Ball

The Milford Brook PTA hosted a winter dance for students in first through fifth
grade and their families on Thursday, Jan. 19. The event was well attended and those who came had fun dancing the night away. One of the highlights of the event was the Hot Cocoa Café where students were able to create their own hot chocolate drinks complete with peppermint shavings, chocolate chips, whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, etc.

Future Teachers of America

Nineteen students from are getting to know a little more about teaching (from the other perspective) now that they are serving as volunteers in our first through fifth grade classrooms. Our Milford Brook students revel in the attention our “Future Teachers” give them. We hope it will be as exciting and educational an experience for our MEMS students as they embark on a journey our teachers know is truly one of the most rewarding careers!
