Milford Brook School September Highlights

A compilation of the school's highlights from September 2012.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Milford Brook School had an excellent start to the school year! We held a first grade orientation on Wednesday the 5th and both parents and students were excited to have the opportunity to explore their new school prior to the arrival of the rest of the students on the 6th.

Our Back to School Night took place on the 12th and we had an excellent turn out. Parents got an inside look into the rigorous new standards that are now driving instruction as well as how teachers are working to align instruction with new evaluative expectations.

We remain committed to data driven instruction in 2012-2013. School safety also remains a number one priority for our staff.  Our students and staff did an excellent job on both their first fire drill and their first lock down drill.

We are off to a fast start with our “Bucket Filling” initiative as we work to teach character education under the umbrella of the anti-bullying initiative.  Our talented counselor, Laurie Glass, visited all the classrooms to share our message and teach students how to report bullying if needed and how to truly include all students in their academic and social lives.

PTA

Our PTA has hit the ground running under the leadership of President, Jenna Potosky. Our first meeting took place on Thursday the 20th and we had over 30 parents attend. I have been working closely with the PTA on how we can continue to make meaningful connections between home and school. Most importantly, how families can truly support the academic growth of all of our Milford Brook lions. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome.

The PTA has many wonderful events planned over the coming year so keep checking the website! Also, please note that they are always looking for new members and for parents to chair or support various committees.
