A compilation of the school's highlights from December.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Student Council Plans 3rd Annual Blood Drive

The Pine Brook Student Council, in conjunction with the Central Jersey Blood Center, is planning a Blood Drive for February 7, 2013 from 3:15 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Pine Brook School. The Student Council will have an afterschool planning meeting with a representative from the Blood Center. At this meeting, the students will learn about the importance of blood donations, the process, and how they will be able to assist during the day of the drive.

In order to increase enthusiasm and participation the entire school is participating in a football themed “Blood Donor Bowl.” The bulletin board in the front entry hallway is designed to look like a football field and each homeroom has a helmet on the board. As students bring in donor forms, the homeroom’s helmet is moved five yards down the field. The classes with the top two number of donors will receive a pizza party and the two students who bring in the most donors will get to be “Principals for the Day.” We are looking forward to beating our record of over 100 units of blood donated at last year’s drive.

Annual Social Studies Fair

All Pine Brook students participated in the Annual Social Studies Fair. The quality of the projects was outstanding. The students’ knowledge of their topics amazed the staff and community members who came to visit the Fair. All of our teachers and students are extremely proud of the finished projects displayed.

Annual Holiday Giving Tree

The Pine Brook Staff and PTA once again made us proud to be members of the Pine Brook Community by providing holiday gifts for several MERS families. The office was overwhelmed with the number of presents brought in by the staff and their generosity.

Annual Spelling Bee

Pine Brook students participated in the Annual School-Level Scripps National Spelling Bee. All contestants should be proud of their accomplishments and we look forward to seeing our school- wide winner at the State Spelling Bee at Monmouth University in March.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

The Pine Brook Student Council organized a fundraising event for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Students decorated cut-outs of the state of New Jersey and wrote about their favorite shore memory, which now adorn the hallways of Pine Brook School. All contributions made will be sent to the Hurricane Sandy Hurricane Relief Fund.

Annual Holiday Performance

The Pine Brook Jazz Band and Choir teamed up to provide the students and staff at Pine Brook with some holiday cheer on December 21. The two groups welcomed everyone as they entered Pine Brook in the morning to fun holiday tunes, and then had encore performances during each lunch period.
