Pine Brook School January Highlights

Students planned and held a blood drive, held a winter concert, participated in a school Geography Bee, began basketball intramurals, and learned about character.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Student Council Plans 2nd Annual Blood Drive

The Student Council, in conjunction with the Central Jersey Blood Center, planned a Blood Drive for February 9, 2012 from 3:15 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Pine Brook. The Student Council had an afterschool planning meeting with a representative from the Blood Center. At this meeting, the students learned about the importance of blood donations, the process, and how they will be able to assist during the day of the drive.

In order to increase enthusiasm and participation the entire school participated in a football themed “Blood Donor Bowl.” The front bulletin board, as you enter the building, is designed to look like a football field and each homeroom has a helmet on the board. As students brought in donor forms, the homeroom’s helmet was moved five yards down the field. The classes with the top two number of donors  received a pizza party and the two students who brought in the most donors got to be “Principals for the Day.” As of today, over 100 people pledged to donate.

Band/Orchestra Concerts

The Pine Brook Band and Orchestra performed for the enjoyment of their parents, families, and friends during their annual Winter Concert. “It’s a Small World,” “Firework,” and “The Scooby Doo Theme Song” were just some of the many high energy songs performed by the two groups.

Camfel Productions “Get a Grip” Assembly

The Pine Brook students were treated to an outstanding multi-screen assembly compliments of the PTA titled “Get a Grip.” This assembly focused on Character Education and kept students interested using songs they can relate to and maintaining a high energy level from beginning to end.

Pine Brook Annual Geography Bee

Pine Brook held its annual Geography Bee this month and we are extremely proud of all the students who participated and represented their classes/teams. The questions were extremely challenging and even stumped the adults. Congratulations to Aleksander Purzynski on winning the competition.

Basketball Intramurals Begin

January 9 marked the start of our Intramural Basketball program. Under coaches Zammit and Ryan, over ninety students take part in the non-competitive, friendly afterschool activity each Monday and Wednesday.
