Revised 2012-2013 Calendar Accepted by MERS BOE

A 184-school day calendar has been approved by the MERS Board of Education.

The has approved a revised school calendar for 2012-2013. At the previous Board meeting on Feb. 7, the which coordinated with the Freehold Regional High School District school calendar.

Board President Michele Stipelman opposed the previous calendar because it had half-days before the Thanksgiving holiday, which the new calendar does not have.

Board Vice-President Lori Semel also questioned the previous calendar because of the numerous days off in September for the Jewish holidays she queried the need for a day off for Columbus Day. The new calendar still has off on Columbus Day, which is a requirement, and a total of three days off for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

The calendar was approved by the Board, with two dissenting votes coming form Brian Graime and Dotty Porcaro.
