Spooktacular Muralists from Marlboro and Howell Grab Awards

Marlboro High School artists take first and third place; an artist from Howell High School grabs second.

Art students from all six high schools within the Freehold Regional High School district participate in the window painting contest as a part of month-long Halloween Spooktacular that takes place in downtown Freehold every October.

John and Barbara Kane, members and organizers of the Spooktacular committee, awarded the students who took first, second, and third place in the 2011 window painting contest at the FRHSD Board of Education meeting on Monday, Nov. 14.

Barbara Kane distributed the awards to the winners because she runs the window painting contest each year:

  • Second Place Winner: “Green Lady” by Shanna Kelly and Lauren Gulotta,

The first place winner receives a large trophy with their name on it which stays at that student’s high school for one year. This year, a new trophy was presented since all of the name plates on the previous trophy have been filled.

Kane “retired” the old trophy and presented it to Superintendent Charles Sampson, and the new trophy was presented to Marlboro High School Principal Shaun Boylan on behalf of Potter’s win.

“The talent was humongous out there this year, and everyone painted so beautifully,” Barbara Kane said.
