Taylor Mills School April Highlights

Students learned how to save the planet during Earth Week, about crime scene science, and engaged in convocation with students from Lafayette Mills School.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Earth Day

The students of were very busy this April! In honor of Earth Day, our students participated in a host of activities designed to promote awareness of all the simple things they can do to help protect their planet.

Throughout Earth week, students discussed some of the problems our earth is facing and pledged to help out in specific ways. Our student government led the charge in each of their classrooms. Students enjoyed the opportunity to play the “experts.” For one hour each day, classrooms participated in our “Lights Out!” campaign aimed at conserving energy.

The Illusion Maker, compliments of the Clean Water Conservation Group and Manalapan Township, visited our school on April 24th to give our students tips on “reducing, reusing, and recycling.” Students were entertained with a fantastic magic show while learning about helping the earth.

Last, but not least, each classroom was invited to participate in our “Recycled Creature Contest” aimed at promoting cooperation, collaboration, school spirit, and reinforcing our recycling efforts. Our winners will be announced at the end of the month, when they will earn bragging rights and host the TM Travelling Trophy until our next contest. We hope that all the children learned how to be Earth conscious this month and will carry those thoughts with them throughout their lives!

Convocation

On April 12-13, our A.T. students from Taylor Mills joined up with their counterparts at Lafayette Mills to participate in our annual Convocation. This year students in grades 3 through 5 participated in Mock Trials centered on Fairy Tale characters and stories. The audience was entertained with facts, fiction, and lots of fun!

Crime Scene Science

Thanks to our fabulous PTA, our students were treated to the CSS (Crime Scene Science) Assembly on April 19th. Students were shown the many ways that science is used to find clues and solve problems in an investigation.
