Wemrock Brook School March Highlights

Check out the school's highlights from March 2013.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Wemrock Brook’s Talent Show

On March 21, Wemrock Brook’s third through fifth graders presented a talent and entertainment show directed by Ms. Lewis and Ms. Richard. Students danced, sang, and/or played musical instruments. There were individual performances, duos and groups acts! It is clear that Wemrock Brook has many talented children. As the show came to an end, there were some surprise performers who joined in: our teachers!

Beethoven, Meet the Musician

Ludwig Van Beethoven, played by Dennis Kobray, brought to life a great musical figure from history for the students to meet and get to know. Major events and turning points in Beethoven’s life were relived and their effects upon the composer’s music were explained and demonstrated in this most enjoyable assembly. The goal was to educate and entertain, as students listened to the classical music and learned about the life of Beethoven. A big thank you to Mrs. Bischof and the PTA for bringing this wonderful assembly to Wemrock Brook School students on March 15.

Immigration Reenactment

Second grade students designed family trees, wrote country reports, and graphed the history of their ancestors, while studying the immigration unit as part of the social studies curriculum. This study concluded with Immigration Reenactment, where teachers and parent volunteers organized stations for students to relive the Ellis Island experience. Students, from various countries around the world, came dressed to school as immigrants holding their suitcases. They visited the nurse/medical station, were tested in US geography and facts, handed in their papers, and finally got their passports stamped as they pledged allegiance to the United States of America.

Star Lab

Wemrock Brook third grade students treated to two days inside a portable planetarium; each class spent a class period gazing at the stars... during the day! Linking social studies, language arts literacy and science, our third grade students listened to a Native American folk tale, a Greek myth and learned about the constellations. It was an exciting time for all of the third grade students!

Principal and Assistant Principal for the Day

Did you ever wonder what the principal and assistant principal of a school building do all day? Well, two students found out first hand as they “took over” for Mrs. Wilpon and Mr. Kriley. Beginning with coming in before their classmates, the students made announcements on WB TV, announcing the winners of the Cutest Pet Contest. They helped during bus duty and participated in important decision-making like, “Should we stay in or out for recess?” Another activity was checking on the daily events, including visiting the Star Lab. The two young “administrators” even ran our March Birthday Bash! Tired, but happy, “the principal and assistant principal of the day” were glad to resume their duties as students the next day.
