Wemrock Brook School October and November Highlights

A compilation of the school's highlights from October and November.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Student Council

This year’s student council representatives and alternate members were selected in late October. During November, fifth grade students ran for one of four offices: President, Vice Present, Treasurer, and Secretary. Students running for these four positions shared their campaign speeches with all of the Wemrock Brook School students through WBTV.

With the help of our talented television crew, all of our candidates were able to reach out to the entire student body. After our election, our new officers shared their acceptance speeches using WBTV. Our first project is to fill Thanksgiving baskets with food for families in need in our community. The student council is already meeting to discuss ways that we can help families impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

On any given morning you will see students dropped off eager to learn or staying late to get more of a good thing. The early birds are either learning science through the Young Scientists program, while others are learning another genre of writing as reporters for the WB newspaper, Wildcat Chat.

Student Council has also begun meeting to plan for the school community. The after school groups are all making music. Some are bringing their instruments for after school band or orchestra. Others are sharpening their vocal cords in choir, which is also held after school. All of these students have special interests, and the teachers are excited about working with them to develop and nurture these talents.

Parents and Teachers – Working Together

Parent-Teacher Conferences were held on October 23 through 26. Teachers had the chance to meet individually with parents to discuss the academic progress of their child. It was a great opportunity to meet and discuss the expectations for the coming year. Parents had a chance to see how their child is doing and suggestions were made on how to help improve their learning.

It is important to work together as a team, and the Parent- Teacher Conference is a great opportunity to show our students that we will work together. Following that meeting, parents were invited to come to school for School Visitation on November 14th and November 15h and sit in their child’s classroom to see what all the excitement is about. We had over 100 visitors between the two days. PTA members were on hand to greet visitors.
