HS Cheerleaders and Baseball Team Commended for Victories

Official proclamations were provided to both teams by the Manalapan Township Committee for their first place wins.

The Competition Cheerleading team and Varsity Baseball team were recognized last week at the Township Committee meeting for their first place victories this year.

The cheerleaders took home the number one trophy in the Medium Varsity Division of the “Battle at the Beach” Cheerleading Competition at Myrtle Beach in March.

The team, led by head coach Lisa Rizzo-Troxell, was named Grand Champions at the event for achieving the highest score of all of the high school teams from all of the high school divisions at the competition.

“The Township Committee is extremely proud of the team and wish to take this opportunity to bestow their special congratulations upon you, your coaches, and all who assisted in achieving this victory,” Mayor Susan Cohen said in a proclamation.

The high school varsity baseball team was also recognized by the Township Committee for capturing their second straight NJISAA Group IV Championship title.

When the Central Jersey Group IV playoffs started, the teams record was 12-11 and the team was seeded tenth. The team then began a winning streak against the number one, two, and three seeds beating Brick Memorial 4-1, Jackson Memorial 5-2, and Middletown South 12-2.

This is the second time that the Braves won the Central Jersey Group IV title against the top-seeded Steinert High School. In the state finals, Manalapan went up against Hillsborough and on June 9, 2012 beat them 2-0.

Brian Boyce, the head coach of the team, was also applauded for being named Shore Conference and New Jersey State Coach of the Year.
