Local Hockey Coach Scores Grant from PSE&G for Team

PSE&G awarded a $300 grant to the Old Bridge Junior Knights Hockey team on behalf of assistant coach, and Manalapan resident, Anthony Barone.

The Old Bridge Junior Knights Bantam Ice Hockey Team recently received a $300 grant from Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) as a part of the company’s “Support for Sports” initiative. The grant was given on behalf of Anthony Barone, a Manalapan resident and PSE&G employee; Barone is the assistant coach of the Junior Knights, a team of 13 and 14 year olds. This grant will be used to purchase new hockey equipment and counterbalance fees.

Barone works as an appliance service supervisor at PSE&G for 13 years and this will be Barone’s fourth year volunteering for the Junior Knights. His son, Joseph, is a goalie for the Old Bridge hockey team.

The Junior Knights lost a close game in the New Jersey State Championships last year, with a total of ten losses and 34 wins in the season. This year, the team has advanced to the Midget 16-year-old division and has already begun training.

“This is the second year that PSE&G has supported the Old Bridge Hockey program,” said Barone in a press release issued by the company. “The company’s ‘Support for Sports’ grant is a tremendous help to the players and their families, and is greatly appreciated.”
