Letter to the Editor: Runaway Foster Dog Returns Home, Thanks to All

Sheldon, a dog being fostered by a Cuddly Creatures Animal Rescue volunteer, was on the run for 34 days and, with the help of local citizens, found his way back home.

I just wanted to give our deepest thanks to everyone who supported us throughout this , and helped us to bring him back to the rescue safely. We are truly thankful to all of those who helped us in so many ways!

There were those who posted his picture on internet sites, on telephone poles and who handed out flyers in the local area. Those who called us with sightings to lead us in the right direction. Those who took time out of their days to comb the streets and woods looking for him on foot and by car. Those who lent us humane traps, and others who helped us set up and man feeding stations in the hopes of pinpointing his location, so we could ultimately catch him.

We'd also like to thank all of you for your kind words and positive attitudes on the Facebook site, and all of you who donated to the "chip in" fund, which helped us raise a large majority of the money to pay for, Steve, the pet detective who was finally able to capture Sheldon, and bring him back to us unharmed! And also a big thanks to, Michelle, who sighted Sheldon on her property, and then selflessly allowed, Steve, to build the enclosure on her property, that was necessary in order to finally capture him.

When dealing with the public and shelters rescuing animals from cruel and neglectful situations, as we do on a weekly basis, you see things that turn your stomach inside out and makes you lose your faith in humanity. You start to wonder what happened to all of the good people in this world?

But through out this experience, although it definitely started out as a nightmare, it has opened up our eyes and brought to light that there really are some wonderful people who do still exist in this world!

Strangers/Animal Lovers, who out of the goodness of your hearts, came together in a combined effort to help us bring Sheldon back! And because of these efforts, we would like to truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for restoring our faith in humanity!

We would like to let you know that Sheldon is doing great now that he is back in his foster home. He is starting to acclimate back to a home environment, has been groomed, and treated for all of his medical needs, which were surprisingly minimal for being on the run for 34 days. We will be going over all of the applications we have received for his placement as well, with the hopes of finding a home that will be a good match for his needs. Once we place him in a home, and he gets settled for a few weeks, we will begin to organize a local " meet and greet" for anyone who would like to stop by and say hello to this Notorious boy!

Also, anyone who sent us a donation will be receiving a letter for their tax purposes within the next week or so.

With Sincerest Gratitude,
Alaina Yacuzzio
