Clark Mills School March Highlights

Check out the school's highlights from March 2013.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Doodle 4 Google Contest Students in all grades participated in the Doodle 4 Google 2013 design contest. Google does a contest for children each year to design a new logo for their website. Each year they have a different theme, and this year it was, "My Best Day Ever...” This year, we had 85 entries, and the top 10 students had their artwork sent to Google to be entered into the state contest. All of the designs were fantastic, and it was really hard to decide who had the top 10 designs! Winners received a certificate and a large set of markers. We also honored five honorable …

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. STARLAB The STARLAB was used as part of a third grade curriculum-based activity on February 19th and February 20, 2013. The lead teachers for our STARLAB activities were Leigh Pisano and Marissa Diab. They conducted lessons about the Earth’s rotation and revolution and taught the students about constellations. Many thanks to Leigh and Marissa for their continued support of our curriculum and for providing our students with such a wonderful hands-on experience! The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Clark Mills Students are Un “Bee” lievable All fourth and fifth grade students participated in a preliminary Geography Bee in their classrooms and then on January 11, 2013, eleven finalists participated in the Championship Bee. Staff, students and parents attended the Geography Bee to find out who would be the school champion. After a close competition, one of our fifth grade boys became the Clark Mills School Geography Bee Champion. After winning the school competition, this lucky winner had the opportunity to take a written test to see if he qualifies for the state level …

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. First Grade Assembly Program Representatives from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office visited our school to teach our first graders “when and how” to use 9-1-1. Our first grade students thoroughly enjoyed the video, the live demonstration of a 9-1-1 call, and the coloring book that they received. We were very fortunate to have such an important program presented to our first graders.   The Gift of Giving Staff and students participated in the Clark Mills School Giving Tree Program once again this year. Clark Mills School October and November Highlights

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Week of Respect During the week of October 1st -5th, the staff and students celebrated the Week of Respect. Several school-wide activities took place. Some examples include students “Dressing for Respect.” For example, on Monday, staff and students wore sweatpants or sweatshirts because “Being Respectful is NO SWEAT!” In addition, Mrs. Cavanagh, our school counselor, met with each class and read and discussed the book, One. Each class wrote letters about respect as well. Finally, the students did other activities in the classroom to celebrate the Week of Respect. What a great …

Student of the Month This year at Clark Mills, we are continuing to incorporate the pillars of Character into our school.  We enjoy celebrating the outstanding, positive character traits our students display through monthly nominations to the character education wall of fame from each class.   There is a “Lords and Ladies” bulletin board in the cafetorium, where pictures of our Students of the Month are displayed. We accentuate positive examples of good character in the hopes that the number of incidences of student bullying and peer conflict decrease. It is our belief that one…

Clark Mills School May Highlights

Students honored their mothers, learned about dinosaurs, held a carnival, and showed off their artsy side!

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. PTA Happenings The students enjoyed shopping for their mothers, aunts, and grandmothers at the PTA plant sale. They were able to buy a variety of plants for their special someone. A big thank you to the PTA volunteers who helped make this event successful! Also, the wonderful CM PTA celebrated our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. The PTA provided a delicious luncheon to the staff and also recognized them with sweet treats and a massage day. The wonderful parents at Clark Mills School made the CM staff feel extra special! Clark Mills School April Highlights

Students "met" and learned about Mozart, enjoyed a book fair, and dug up dinosaur fossils!

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Meet the Musician On Friday, March 30th, the PTA hosted a wonderful assembly called, Meet the Musicians. The presenter dressed up as Wolfgang Mozart and skillfully taught the students about Wolfgang’s music and journey as a musician. The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the show! PTA BookFair The students enjoyed shopping at the PTA Book Fair during the week of April 16th. They were able to buy books, bookmarks, erasers, pencils, and much, much more. Many families also came out during our PTA Book Fair Family Night to enjoy some snacks while they shopped! What a great …

Students participated in "Read Across America", went through an oral reading fluency screening and learned about bike safety.

Read Across America In conjunction with the nationwide Read Across America Day on March 2nd, we celebrated with an entire week of festivities centered around the love of reading. During the week of February 27- March 2nd, each grade level had guest readers throughout the week. Guest readers included grandparents, parents, members of the Manalapan and Englishtown Police Departments, and Mayor Susan Cohen.
