Lafayette Mills School March Highlights

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Sweet Treats Dance On Friday, March 1, 2013 our Sweets and Treats Dance was held. The event was well attended by more than 400 students and parents. Fossil Dig A Fossil Dig assembly for the second grade students conducted by John Miller from Pearl Observatory was held on March 5th. Students learned about the different periods in which dinosaurs were present on the earth. First Grade Registration First Grade Registration was held on March 6th and 7th at Lafayette Mills. Random Acts of Kindness Week The purpose of Random Acts of Kindness Week was to reinforce to students the meaning behind each of the six pillars of character – caring, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship, respect, and responsibility through school-wide and classroom-based activities. These activities aimed to further enhance the culture of our school through a proactive, positive approach to teaching students how to be better people and by instilling in students ways to consistently and continuously show good character traits. The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Mad Science and Pearl Observatory Throughout the month of October, students who elected to participate in one of these two after-school programs housed at Lafayette Mills School participated in a diverse array of hands-on, inquiry-based science experiments and activities. One such activity presented by Pearl Observatory was Shark Attack which focused student learning on Great White Sharks. At Mad Science, students engaged in such experiments as “CURRENT" EVENTS where they were taken on a tour on the electron freeway. The class learned about conductors, insulators, and other …

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. First Grade and New Student Orientation Incoming first graders and their parents met their new teachers and were acquainted with the layout of the building via a guided tour on Wednesday, Sept. 5. A separate new student orientation followed the first grade program. Instrumental Music Assembly Mr. Geltch and Ms. Sadanand conducted an assembly for all fourth graders and new fifth grade students to introduce students to the program and the selection of instruments available for lessons. Lafayette Mills School May Highlights

Students showed off their talents, took the NJASK, dug for dinos, and read at Barnes and Noble's!

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. NJASK Testing (April 30th-May 11th) Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 took the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge. This assessment, mandated by the state, assessed students' knowledge of writing, reading, mathematics, and (for grade 4 students only) science.    Make-up testing was held the following week for any students who were absent during regular testing.   PTA Plant Sale (May 8th and May 9th) The Lafayette Mills School PTA afforded our students the opportunity to purchase flowers for Mother’s Day. School Highlights

Lafayette Mills School April Highlights

Students took spring pictures, enjoyed a move sponsored by the PTA, held a book fair, and went to the AT Convocation.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. AT Convocation The AT Convocation was held at Taylor Mills School on April 12th and 13th. Our third grade AT class was in attendance with Mrs. Johnson. Mock trial activities regarding Fairy Tale characters were presented at this event. PTA Movie Night Movie Night, sponsored by the PTA, was held on Friday, April 13th for Grades 1 and 2. About 101 students came to the Lafayette Mills Dining Room, which was set up like a movie theater, to watch The Muppets and enjoy some snacks with their friends, Ms. Klask, and me. Students participated in "Read Across America", played basketball, learned about Beethoven, and had Scholastic Book Fair.

Read Across America February 27th through March 2nd was an exciting time at Lafayette Mills School as students engaged in a variety of activities in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and to celebrate Read Across America week. Highlighted below is a list of activities students participated in during this week: Basketball Night The teachers and the Lafayette Mills PTA held our annual Basketball Night on Friday, March 2, 2012 at MEMS. Students learned about seeing-eye dogs, studied the stars in STARLAB, had group pictures, participated in the National Geographic Bee, and watched a movie.

National Geographic Bee Our annual National Geographic Bee was held on January 9, 2012. The fourth and fifth grade students competed in this challenging competition. The students answered questions related to regional, national, and world geography. Parent visitors where afforded the opportunity to observe their children compete.   Seeing Eye Dog Assembly for Grades 2 and 4 On Friday, January 13, 2012 grades two and four students learned how Seeing Eye dogs are raised and trained for legally blind individuals.
