National History Day On March 3, our students competed in the regional competition for New Jersey History Day. This year's National History Day theme encouraged students to identify the "Turning Points in History." Our students investigated topics of their choice to create websites, performances and exhibits. After months of evaluating primary sources, scheduling interviews with eyewitnesses, and organizing information, they were ready to display their work. The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. The General Assembly of The State of New Jersey sent a Citation of Commendations and praise to the Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School’s Drama Students for their presentation of the show, “Our Stories of Sandy” to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The citation was signed by Senator Sam Thompson, and Assemblymen Ron Dancer and Robert D. Clifton of the 12th New Jersey Legislative District. “Our Stories of Sandy” was the culminating performance of the MEMS Drama Students under the direction of Julianna Krawiecki. A compilation of the school’s highlights from December.
The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Signora Ryan did a presentation on the culture of Sicily for the MEMS students of Italian on Friday, December 7th. The highlight of the presentation was learning about Sicily’s famous dessert, the cannoli. The students watched a video clip on how the cannoli shells are made and then had the opportunity to fill their own cannoli shell and enjoy the dessert. On Wednesday, December 19th the Drama Club presented "Our Stories of Sandy", a dramatic storytelling performance to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Students participated in an Algebra contest, a walk-a-thon, and rewrote the Declaration of Independence!

Algebra Contest On Monday, April 30th, MEMS Algebra students competed in an Algebra Contest sponsored by the Mathematics League. 460 schools across the country competed and this is the first year that they recorded the top 5 scores from each school. The results came back from the Mathematics League and MEMS was in the top 40 schools. We were ranked 32 out of 460. Congratulations to all our Algebra students! 39 students were recognized at the Jersey Shore Science Fair and several others advanced onto the State Level for National History Day.

Thirty nine MEMS students participated at the Jersey Shore Science Fair on Saturday, March 17, 2012, which was larger than ever, with over 700 students! 18 of our 39 students were recognized with awards, with 11 students moving on to the Delaware Valley Science Fair in April. Friday, June 15 will mark the official ending of the MERS 2011-2012 school year.
At last night's Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education meeting, the Board finally decided the last day of school for the 2011-2012 school year, which will be on Friday, June 15. The last day of school will be a four-hour school day for all of the schools within the district, as well as graduation day for the eighth grade students from Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School. Graduation will take place at 11 a.m. at Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. There will also be a four-hour school day on Thursday, June 14.

Students participated in a mathematical beauty pageant, sponsored a Super Bowl drive, sold candy grams and donated money to the SPCA.

Congratulations to the MEMS Math Counts Mathletes. The MEMS Math Counts team brought the 6 th place trophy home for MEMS from their regional competition. Members of the team are Kathryn Jiang, Philip Luo, Vladyslav Nazarchuk, Amanda Lashnick, Josh Reich, Rahul Singh, Spencer Volk, and Tiffany Yuen. There were 31 teams and 206 students competing from Monmouth, Middlesex and Union counties. A special congratulations to Kathryn Jiang, who placed 7 th out of 206 and competed in the countdown round where she finished in 6th place. MEMS Student Council sponsored a Super Bowl Food …

The clients of the Samaritan Center will reap the benefits of food collection from the local middle school and the Yorktowne Club.
The Manalapan Englishtown Middle School and members of the Yorktowne Club have collected food for the Samaritan Center, the local food pantry which collects food for needy families in Western Monmouth County. A seventh grade Social Studies teacher at Delta Community at MEMS, Donna Clemente, came up with the idea for students to donate because she wanted students to take part in something charitable. Originally, the food collecting was specific to the Delta Community, but then Clemente approached MEMS Principal Robert Williams about allowing the entire student body to participate. The school faculty promoted the campaign to collect food for the center and the student council and the National Junior Honor Society also embraced the idea. A …
