Monday, Jan. 21 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. For some, the national holiday honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community, be it through removing graffiti or picking up litter in a local park. School will be in session on Martin Luther King Day for all Manalapan-Englishtown schools and Manalapan High School.
The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District and the Freehold Regional High School District both revised their school calendars in November changing Martin Luther King day from a day off to a school day. Originally, both districts were closed on the national holiday. However, due to the exorbitant number of school closures as a result of Superstorm Sandy, additional school days had to be added to the calendar in order to make sure that the 180 school day requirement is met.
