5 Things to Know About a Communiversity Degree

Brookdale's Communiversity is an educational bargain for students looking for a four-year degree and even a master's.

For Meghan Fischer, of Port Monmouth, and Kevin Moedt, of Middletown, the prospect of paying for four years of college is daunting. The Middletown North High School seniors are both feeling the financial crush, so the pair turned up at Brookdale Community College last week to hear how the NJ Coastal Communiversity might ease the burden. "My parents have told me I can't take out any student loans," said Moedt, who works at the Navesink Country Club and is interested in a hospitality and tourism degree from New Jersey City University. Fischer said going away to school would be her first choice but with one parent laid off from work, a degree through the Communiversity "is a better option financially than going away." Brookdale to Showcase 4-Year Degrees

The community college will host an informational workshop Feb. 2 on its NJ Coastal Communiversity.

When Long Branch resident Megan Beckmann wanted to beef up her credentials in early childhood education, she knew Georgian Court University could provide her with the right classes. But instead of studying at the Lakewood University, she turned to Brookdale Community College and its NJ Coastal Communiversity, which has an alliance with five New Jersey universities.  By taking classes at Brookdale's Wall Higher Education Center, Beckmann was able to save tuition and take evening classes while maintaining her day job working with special needs children.
