An Edison Police Officer has been charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated arson in connection with a fire at the Monroe home of a veteran police officer set on Monday, May 20. Michael Dotro, 32, was arrested at his Manalapan Township home, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Monroe Township Police Chief Michael E. Lloyd announced Thursday night. He was charged in connection with a fire set at the home of Edison Police Captain Mark Anderko and his family, reported to Monroe Township Police at 3:59 a.m. Although the fire was extinguished within 10-15 minutes by the Monroe Township Fire Department, the two-story Colonial-style home suffered extensive damage. No one was inside of the home at the time of the fire.
A Pinebrook Road home in Manalapan Township caught fire Wednesday morning, Capt. Michael Fountain said. Manalapan police responded to 66 Pinebrook Road about 10 minutes before 10 a.m. to find heavy smoke billowing from the home as well as flames coming out of the second floor windows. The fire was extinguished by responding fire departments, which included Englishtown Fire Department, Gordons Corner Fire Company, Manalapan Township Fire Company #1, Robertsville Fire Company, and East Freehold Fire Company. Michael Confessore died on Friday after a tractor he was riding flipped over, police said.
A Manalapan man was killed on Friday, May 17 when a farm tractor he was riding flipped over, police said. Michael Confessore, 49, was helping a friend remove trees and stumps from his Gravel Hill Road farm by transporting them with an older model of a Massy Ferguson farm tractor. The train of the tractor was locked onto the trees causing it to flip over as Confessore was sitting in the driver's seat, according to police. Confessore was reportedly killed instantly. The tragic accident happened at around 2 p.m. on Friday. Paramedics and police quickly arrived at the scene where Confessore was pronounced dead. A Honda that crashed into another car and fled the scene in Freehold was located in Manalapan.
Manalapan police located a car involved in a hit-and-run car accident that took place on East Freehold Road and Pond Road in Freehold Township on Wednesday, May 8. The Honda that fled the scene of the accident was located by Manalapan police at the Gulf Gas Station parking lot on Route 9 North, according to police. The driver admitted to being involved in the crash and fleeing the scene. The passenger in the vehicle, Amanda Torres, 18, of Manalapan, was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Torres was arrested by Manalapan police for being in possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a summons pending court. Four juveniles were allegedly shot at by two other juveniles, police said.
Two Manalapan adolescents were arrested by police for reportedly shooting other juveniles with BB guns on the evening of Monday, May 6 on Wilson Avenue, according to police. The two boys were shooting at four boys with spring loaded plastic pellet guns; three of the boys were struck with the pellets and suffered injury, police said. Englishtown police already apprehended the minors when Manalapan police arrived at the scene. The two boys were arrested, processed, and released to their parents. Four pellet guns used in the shooting were seized as evidence. This case is currently being reviewed by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Be sure to eye your car for damage as three cars parked in Manalapan have been vandalized recently.
The Manalapan Police Department has reported several instances of car vandalism in the township. A 57-year-old woman of Arrowood Road told police that her car was damaged during the overnight hours between April 26 and April 27. The rear view mirrors, rear tail lights, rear bumper, and license plate were all damaged. This incident is pending further investigation by police. Another Manalapan car was keyed and dented while parked in a lot near the home of the owner on Shinnecock Drive. The 54-year-old victim reported the damage to police on Tuesday, April 23. A car on Elisa Court burst into flames early Monday morning.
A Manalapan car caught fire during the early morning hours Monday have prompted an investigation lead by the The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said. The car reportedly ignited at 8 Elisa Court in the township. Manalapan police and fire departments responded to the blaze at 4:11 a.m. after multiple 911 calls were made. The car fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries, according to Gramiccioni. Several residents have mentioned hearing a loud explosion before the car caught fire. Heroin was allegedly found in possession of a Manalapan man.
An 18-year-old Manalapan man was arrested on alleged heroin possession by police shortly after midnight on Thursday, May 2. Sgt. Leonard Maltese and Ptl. Joseph DeFilippis of the Manalapan Police Department responded to Deer Way for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Salvatore Geloso, was found to be in possession of heroin, according to police. Geloso was arrested by police, processed and released on a summons. His case his pending court.

$5,000 worth of brass and copper was stolen from a resident's home.
The Manalapan Police have reported one attempted burglary of a home residence and a variety of thefts throughout the township. ------------------------ Burglars were deterred from a Manalapan home after the home alarm was set off during an attempted burglary on Thursday, May 2. Between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. someone tried to enter the home by trying to force open the front door, but was unsuccessful. The perpetrator then went to the back of the home, removed the screen of the rear patio window, and pushed in the locked bottom part of the window, which ultimately set off the alarm. The rear window of the Manalapan nursery was pried open and the alarm was set off.
An attempted burglary took place at Bulk's Nursey, on Route 537 in Manalapan, at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 29, police reported. Police responded to the business after the alarm was set off and discovered evidence of a burglary attempt. According to police, a rear window, which had been boarded up, was pried open. Nothing was reported stolen and it is not known if the individuals entered the building since the alarm was set off.
