Robert Dunbar was indicted on five different counts for allegedly shooting an off-duty NYPD detective in a Manalapan home.
Robert Dunbar, of Staten Island, was indicted by the Monmouth County Grand Jury for allegedly shooting New York Police Department Detective Louis Pepe in his estranged wife’s home last August. Dunbar, 35, was indicted on burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. According to the indictment issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Dunbar illegally entered the Taylors Mills Road home belonging to his estranged wife and while doing so inflicted bodily harm to both his wife and the off-duty police officer. Robert Dunbar, a Manalapan man accused of shooting an off-duty New York city police officer last month, posted bail on Aug. 20 and was released from Monmouth County Correctional Institute. Dunbar allegedly shot the officer after finding him in his Taylors Mills Road home with his estranged wife on Aug. 10. According to court documents, Dunbar obtained the gun from the police officer and shot three rounds, striking the man once in the back. Dunbar initially evaded police after the shooting, but surrendered to authorities the next day. He was arrested and placed in Monmouth County Correctional Institute on $500,000 bail with no 10 percent chase bond. Robert Dunbar, the man who allegedly shot an off-duty New York Police officer on Friday in Manalapan, had his initial appearance in front of Judge Ronald Reisner at the Monmouth County Courthouse Monday. Dunbar, 35, was not physically at the courthouse because the jail is under lockdown for a chicken pox outbreak. Dunbar was video conferenced into the courtroom via a television. He watched and listened as his attorney, Yan Katsnelson, and First Assistant Prosecutor Richard Incremona spoke with the judge. Dunbar’s mother and sister were present in the courtroom.
