Ellen K. Deeble, 62, of Freehold Township, NJ passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at CentraState medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Allentown, PA, she moved to Freehold Township 37 years ago. Miss Deeble was a research librarian for the Monmouth County Library, Manalapan Township for the past 37 years. She received her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974. Surviving are a brother, Richard J. Deeble, Newton; and nephew and his wife, Jason C. and Tara Deeble; and three great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 1 p.m., at Applewood Estates, Applewood Drive, Freehold Township, NJ. The Monmouth County Library is having a Girl Power Weekend with super fun events for girls in sixth grade and higher on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. The activities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday starting out with girl power yoga! Activities on Sunday begin at 1:30 p.m. Registration is required. For more information and to register, click here. The Learning Experience is bringing people to the Lakewood Blue Claws game vs. the Savanna Sand Gnats on Saturday, April 20. The Quail Hill Scout Reservation is holding a free open house and “fun day” on Saturday, April 13 beginning at noon for interested elementary school aged boys and their families. Boys will have a chance to try the BB and Archery Ranges, play games, go fishing and tour of the camp. Parents will be provided with information about the Cub Scout program, find out how to join a local Cub Scout pack, and learn about the Quail Hill Summer Camp program, which is open to boys and girls. Madeline Magliocco, 65, of Manalapan Township, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 29, 2013. Born in Manhattan, New York, she lived in Manalapan Township for the past 36 years. Magliocco was a clerk at the Monmouth County Library, Manalapan Township, for the past 15 years. She was predeceased by her father, Fred Caputo, and a sister, Joann Castronuovo. Surviving are her husband, John; two sons, Robert Magliocco, Manalapan Township, and Michael J. Magliocco, Morganville; her mother, Delores Battari Caputo, Brooklyn, New York; a brother, Ronald Caputo, Brooklyn, New York; and a granddaughter, Marie Magliocco. The Monmouth County Library's Children's Book Fair will be held on Saturday, March 16.
If you want your child to dive into reading and become more excited about books, be sure to take them to a place that will be making reading as fun as the circus! The Monmouth County Library is holding their 2013 Children’s Book Fair on Saturday, March 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township and this year their theme is “Carnival of Books”. Watch a dog perform circus tricks, a one man circus juggle and perform magic, and learn to walk a tightrope! Oh, and there will also be some books, movies, and raffle prizes. Black History Month is celebrated in the U.S. throughout the month of February. American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week to commemorate the contributions that people of African descent have made to our nation. The first celebration occurred on Feb. 12, 1926. For many years, the second week of February was set aside for the celebration to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and editor Frederick Douglass.
