Two Manalapan Women Injured in Three-Car Accident

Ernest Feist was charged with aggravated assault and assault by motor vehicle; police say he was intoxicated and speeding at the time of the accident.

The Emergency Management Director of Monroe Township has been hospitalized and charged in connection with a crash that injured two Manalapan women, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Monroe Township Police Chief Michael Lloyd announced Thursday afternoon.

Ernest Feist, 54, of Monroe Township, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault by auto for causing the crash on Hoffman Station Road, near the Hoffman Road intersection in Monroe Township at 5:03 p.m. on June 4, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor's office. He was charged while being treated for injuries at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Investigator Michael Daniewicz, of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, determined that Feist was both intoxicated and speeding at the time of the crash, according to the prosecutor's office.

Feist was driving a 2012 Mercedes CLS west when he crossed over the yellow line and hit a 2004 Toyota Highlander being driven by a 57-year-old Manalapan woman, Carey and Lloyd said.

The woman was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Feist's car also crashed into a 2004 Mazda being driven by a 31-year-old Manalapan woman, who was travelling behind the Toyota. The woman was transported to Centra State Hospital in Freehold, where she was treated and released.

A 34-year-old man from Effort, Pa., who was a passenger in Feist's vehicle, was transported to the Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro. He was listed in stable condition.

Feist also is the Monroe Township Engineer, Director of Public Works, and Planning Board Engineer.
